The recent Enlargement of the European Union and, consequently, the Accession of the Republic of Cyprus to the E.U. in 2004, have opened up many interesting opportunities for further economic and commercial ties and cooperation among the E.U.'s different 25 Member States.
As regards the Republic of Cyprus, its economy has today the highest purchasing power income per capita of all the recent E.U. Enlargement Countries, and its implementation of the E.U.'s Convergence Plan has recently been highly praised by both the European Commission and the International Monetary Fund (I.M.F.).
So, I sincerely hope that the path followed by the Cypriot economy will increase the possibilities for a more profound, longlasting and fruitful cooperation between this beautiful Country and all the rest of the E.U. Member States, including of course, in the first place, the Kingdom of Spain.
Within this framework, the Cyprus-Spain Business Association has become an important asset in the excellent relations that exist today in all possible aspects, between both our Countries. Since its creation in 2002, the Association has also become a key player in the improvement of the knowledge of both veteran and newcoming businessmen on the interesting world of business links between Cyprus and Spain.
Thus, allow me to make good use of this opportunity and to congratulate the Association, its President and the rest of its collaborators, for their tenacity in promoting the enhancement of business relations between our two Countries and especially between our mutually active businessmen. Since my arrival, I have directly witnessed the hard work and the never-quitting interest of its Members to make more prosperous these commercial and investment ties, whose number I hope will increase during the coming years.
Finally, I am also sure that this new Web Page will be an excellent tool for all of you who wish to find out more about the Association itself, about the possibilities of doing business in Cyprus and in Spain or about any other related matters.
Therefore, I wish the Cyprus-Spain Business Association's Web Page every possible success, a long life and many prosperous visits.
Nicosia, June 2005.
